Just got a rental copy of 'The Omen'. As a Fox disc it is coded to region B. I have a region A PS3. Sure enough, the disc comes up with a warning on playing back that it is the wrong region. However, pressing the 'Top Menu' button on the BD remote accesses the menu!. The disc then plays back properly.
Anyone else tried this? I have firmware 1.54.

Wow, I've gotta go try this!
I have a few UK import DVD's, that would be fantastic if I could play them! Has anyone figured out how to play PAL DVD's on the PS3 yet? I have a DVD set imported that is region free, however the PS3 says it cannot play PAL. Both of my other cheap DVD players can.
At any rate, GREAT find!

Please give feedback if this works on any other discs - seems too good to be true.

Flawed logic. If this is true, then Fox (US) will sell more The Omen (or other similarly region locked titles) to Region B/C consumers. How's that bad for business?
Only the partners who own distribution rights in their region will get pissed.
The BDA said that region locked titles have 12 months starting from the release date to be sold. After that, it falls under the 'catalog' titles and should be region free. Remaining stock must be labelled as region locked while new pressings must remove the region code and be labelled as such.

You should be able to replay them, especially if they have no regional coding, via a Linux DVD playback app if you have Linux installed on your PS3. How the 50Hz will look displayed at 60Hz is another question. (You'll get some judder on motion I suspect)
Not allowing 50Hz playback of region-free titles on a 60Hz PS3 is a bit restrictive - especially now you can buy DVD recording camcorders. (Imagine someone living in the UK recording a DVD of a family event and sending it to the US...)

Unfortunately I tried this with 'Click' region B. It won't work stating the function is unavailable. This is a Sony disc. Must have prohibited user operations applied to the wrong region screen. Couldn't find a way round it. Perhaps a modified firmware in future to allow such operations on all discs would be the answer. In the meantime I'd be interested if anyone could try the trick on other Fox discs.

My understanding was that Fox was the studio that pushed BDA the hardest for region coding. That is what my comment was related to.

Summary: Blu-ray players without Cinavia are listed here. And you can also find a complete Cinavia solution to remove Cinavia from Blu-ray/DVD permanently in this article.
As the world’s most complete multimedia backup solution package, the Copy modules in DVDFab 11 help you copy and burn DVDs, Blu-rays and 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays to blank DVD/Blu-ray/UHD medium, or output the results onto your computer hard disk drive saved as ISO files or folders; the Ripper modules enable you convert those mentioned discs to MP3, AAC, MP4, MKV, and many others, for playback on portable and mobile devices; while the Creator modules let you use home videos to produce premium DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays.
Cinavia is a watermarking system included in many Blu-rays and a few DVDs. It can mute the Blu-ray/DVD copy made from copyrighted sources and therefore it sabotages the reproduction of copyrighted Blu-rays/DVDs. It was announced that all Blu-ray players released after the Feb. of 2012 are mandatory to be Cinavia-enabled, but that is not totally true. As a matter of fact, there are players that don’t have their firmware updated or even don’t have Cinavia detector installed.
Blu-ray Players without Cinavia Firmware
Here are Blu-ray players without Cinavia we found.
Pioneer BDP-320
Samsung BD-H6500(remove the Wi-fi capabilities)
Sony BDP-S350 & BDP-S550 (fw 0026)
Sony BDP-S1000es(fw 014)
Sony BDPS5500
Panasonic DMP-BD55 (fw 2.4)
Panasonic DMP-BD65 (fw 1.64)
Panasonic DMP-BD85 (fw 1.62)
Oppo players
There are developers claimed that they have developed firmware for Panasonic Blu-ray players that make them bypass Cinavia. But in order to get a Cinavia free firmware you have to provide your device information to them and need to be a contributor to donate some money to the site. Click this page to find the firmware that can get rid of Cinavia.
The manufacture of Oppo Blu-ray player has said that all their Blu-ray players are Cinavia free, and they are not going to support the watermark, but those players are outrageously expensive. You may need to think over before placing an order. Here is the list of Oppo players.
Some people also say that you can find an old Blu-ray player to get rid of Cinavia problems successfully, but the truth is that it is a little more difficult to find a Blu-ray player made pre-Feb 2012. So here comes the question, what should I do if I already have a Cinavia enabled Blu-ray player and I don’t want to pay for a new one or I cannot find an older player? Here I recommend you a powerful and complete Cinavia solution – DVDFab Blu-ray Cinavia Removal.
DVDFab Blu-ray Cinavia Removal
It is an excellent Blu-ray Cinavia remover that can remove Cinavia from Blu-rays completely and permanently. But you should note that Blu-ray Cinavia Removal has to work with DVDFab Blu-ray Copy, Blu-ray Ripper or Blu-ray to DVD Converter (outputs AC3 audio track).
For removing Cinavia from DVD, you can use DVDFab DVD Cinavia Removal. Like Blu-ray Cinavia Removal, DVD Cinavia Removal fixs Cinavia by substituting the original one with a new one, but the difference lies in that it outputs AC3 audio track, which equals to the original DVD AC3 audio track. Though the quality of AC3 is not as good as DTS-HD, it is acceptable by most people. DVD Cinavia Removal has to work with DVDFab DVD Copy. Click here to learn how to remove Cinavia from DVD.
